    The Illinois Theatre Association (ITA) is thrilled to announce auditions for the prestigious 50th Illinois High School Theatre Festival All-State Production of Newsies to be presented at Illinois State University in January 2026. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity brings together the state’s most talented high school performers, technicians, and musicians for a professionally produced show that will be performed at the annual Illinois High School Theatre Festival.

    Auditions are open to current high school students across Illinois who are passionate about theatre and eager to collaborate with top peers from around the state. Students can audition for roles in the cast, apply for technical crew positions, or audition to be part of the pit orchestra. All Audition forms are due by May 16, 2025.

    Dates: May 31 or June 7 Locations: Normal, IL or Addison, IL

    Who Can Audition: Illinois high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in 2025-2026

    The All-State Production is known for its high-caliber performances and the unique opportunity it provides for students to work under the guidance of professional directors, designers, and educators. Participants will gain valuable experience, build lifelong friendships, and be part of a truly unforgettable theatre experience.

    “This production is a highlight of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival and an extraordinary opportunity for students to challenge themselves artistically,” said Anna McSweeney, Director of the 2026 All-State Production. “We encourage all dedicated and passionate theatre students to audition and be part of something truly special.”

    Interested students should prepare audition materials according to the guidelines provided on the ITA website. Technical crew applicants will be required to submit portfolios, and musicians will need to demonstrate their instrumental proficiency through recorded or live auditions.

    Join us for an evening of laughter as we raise funds for the ITA Clif Aldridge Scholarship at Zanies in Rosemont.

    Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the show starting at 7:00 pm.

    Tickets are $25 per person, plus a two-item minimum and a 20% service gratuity.

    Bring cash, as we'll be hosting a 50/50 raffle to raise even more funds for our incredible high school theatre students.

    This event is open to those over 21 who want to enjoy an entertaining evening while supporting the ITA. Please note that most stand-up comedy shows are rated "R. "

    The ITA's Annual Members' Celebration is coming soon! All of Illinois Theatre is CONNECTED! This amazing brunch is a chance to celebrate our award-winners and network as an Association. The keynote will motivate all of Illinois Theatre to go forward and have our best year- yet!

    A full brunch, complete with a mimosa bar, is sure to satisfy everyone.

Michelle Bayer
Expires 2025

Michelle DePasquale-Bayer has taught theatre and biology at Oak Park and River Forest High School for 25 years and currently serves as the Director of Theatre and Performing Arts Department Chair. In 2014 Michelle received the Huskie Booster Club outstanding faculty award, and in 2020 she received Maine West Fine Arts Alumni Award. She is currently directing the Illinois High School Theatre Festival’s All-State production. She is excited to represent secondary theatre on the ITA Board.


Ryan Lambert
Expires 2025


Ryan Lambert is a U.S. history teacher at at Hunters Lane High School. He was the 2023 Executive Director of Illinois High School Theatre Festival and is so proud of the students and staff that built a magical festival where we asked ourselves "Are You Living or Just Existing?" He has served on the Festival Committee in a variety of positions and was the 2019 Co-Producer for the All-State production of "In the Heights." He is looking forward to building relationships with other directors from across the state as the Secondary Representative for the Illinois Theatre Association.
