Imagination Theater seeks a talented Part-Time Bookkeeper
Chicago's award-winning Imagination Theater is a non profit touring theater organization that provides diverse audiences including children and seniors with dynamic, participatory programming which enhances well-being and creates a more civil, safe society. From its inception in 1966, Imagination Theater has remained an important resource not only to Chicagoland area schools and senior centers, but to colleges and universities across the country. In 2009, our programming has touched the lives of 65,000 children and seniors at over 600 performances and workshops. Imagination Theater has a budget size of $300,000 and is located near Broadway and Lawrence Avenues in Chicago.
Working 15 hours a week, the Bookkeeper is responsible for the accurate and timely management of Imagination Theater’s day to day bookkeeping transactions and regular occurring financial reporting. This position is also responsible for the accurate and timely online payroll management.
The Bookkeeper reports directly to the Artistic Director with indirect oversight of the Board Treasurer. Because financial reporting is a leading indicator of the overall health of the organization, the Bookkeeper prepares monthly financial reports and presents to the Board of Directors for their review at its evening meetings.
The Bookkeeper manages the organization’s bank accounts transacting all financial activity within Accounts Receivables and Payables. This position holds responsibility for ensuring the organization’s compliance with all federal, state laws and regulations as well as grant-funder required financial documents to substantiate our Certificate of Good Standing. The Bookkeeper manages the receipt and tracking of all donations given by donors.
We will recognize the hire for this position because they have a Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field such as Accounting. They also will have 2-3 years experience managing daily Accounts Payable and Receivable transactions. Especially desirable will be the candidate’s work experience in an accounting or business-related function for an arts organization.
It is important that candidates have past experience at an intermediate level using accounting software such as Quickbooks and payroll management software such as Paychex. Also critical is past experience at an intermediate level preparing regular re-occurring financial reports such as monthly profit and loss reports and balance statements. Familiarity with regular use of Microsoft suite of products is important.
